Kuang-Yi Ku

Kuang-Yi Ku was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. He is currently based in Eindhoven, Netherlands, studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He graduated with double master degrees: Dentistry from National Yang-Ming University, and Communication Design from Shih Chien University.

He is a practicing dentist, a new media artist and a social designer. He also co-founded TW BioArt (a Taiwanese bioart community) to stimulate the fields of BioArt and Science+Art in Taiwan. He has won the first prize in the Taipei Digital Art Awards in 2015 with The Fellatio Modification Project, where he merges body modification, gender studies, queer theories, and dentistry. His work often deals with the human body, sexuality, human-animal interaction and medical technology, aiming to investigate the relationships among technology, individual and environment.

His work around sexuality and body modification has been covered extensively by arts, scientific, and mainstream press, such as NY Mag’s “The Cut”, Dazed Digital, Metro, New Scientist and The Daily Mail. He has given talks and workshops on his transdisciplinary practice internationally, as well as being widely exhibited in both scientific and arts contexts.
