'Surrender' (2023) invites us into Jenkin van Zyl's psychotropic film-world centred around an endurance dance marathon, and the cryptid lore of the "rat king". Exploring the limitations and expansiveness of the body, the artist transforms our ground-floor galleries into a series of immersive environments for you to explore, from the belly of a rat to an energy-drink lined trophy room.
Uma Breakdown takes us on a journey through the gothic genre and its relationship to horror, intimacy of care and technology in their exhibition, 'Earth A.D. 2' (2023). This expansive body of work spans immersive installation, writing and video games, and draws on their research into ongoing collective repair.
Our free family-friendly workshops are back! Inspired by artists Uma Breakdown and Jenkin van Zyl, the workshops investigate the genres of horror and fantasy, and ask you to consider what we need to create spaces of care and support. This season, workshops will be held in a brand new location! Join us on the top floor of the building in Studio/Lab, a space for artists (of all ages) to experiment and play.
FACT believes absolutely in the protection of human life and human rights. We condemn the violence that has been inflicted in recent weeks and call for a peaceful resolution.
