Genre: Rave culture art films

Renee Charles and Iesha Palmer host a special presentation of five short films that explore Black and queer nightlife. Narrated by the voices shaping contemporary British electronic music culture today and produced by leading independent curation collective fynn studio, move/007 is a series of art films that centre the role of women and non-binary people at the heart of rave culture.

The screenings will be followed by a Q&A hosted by Renee Charles and Iesha Palmer, that centres the importance of Black and queer spaces, their decline, and the power of local community. It will also explore sobriety, representation, spirituality, and collective healing, with the Q&A creating a space to focus on genuine connection, and culture beyond the scene and joy of the dancefloor.

Doors: 19:00. Screening: 19:30. Q&A: 20:30.

Please note that doors open 30 minutes before the screening and the programme will begin promptly at the listed time.

SHORT FILM PROGRAMME

Lost Property

Everyone forgets that a night out starts with a security guard. With hundred of photographs sharing the sights of what the bouncer sees from the edges of a dancefloor, a Black queer security guard reveals the intimate realities of a career in nightlife.

The Beat

DJ and Producer Karen Nyame KG reflections on rhythm, heritage and femme identity inspired rave videographer Daisy Gaston’s vibrant, beat-driven visuals. This collaboration celebrates the enduring pull of the beat through sight and sound.

#friendsonfilm

Britain’s foremost chronicler and archivist of contemporary Black queer culture, Bernice Mulenga celebrates ten years of their iconic photo series #friendsonfilm. Through abstracts of a conversation with their closest of friends, we commemorate a historic moment in time.

Baianá (Bonde Re-edit)

Accompanying unseen footage of her Baiana music promo, Nia Archives takes us on a journey that starts in the favelas of Rio and that ends up on the streets of Manchester. Thanks to Universal Music for their support in the making of this film.

Beautiful (Future)

SHERELLE delivers a powerful rallying cry of Black queer communities birthing dance music. Wanting to break through the South monopolising Black and queer narratives in the UK, SHERELLE talks about her community-driven platform Beautiful coming to cities like Liverpool.
