Alice Bucknell is a Los Angeles-based artist, writer, and educator with a particular interest in game engines and speculative fiction. Their recent work has focused on creating cinematic universes within game worlds, exploring the affective dimensions of video games as interfaces for understanding complex systems, relations and forms of knowledge. They are also the organizer of New Mystics, a digital platform merging magic and technology. Their work has appeared internationally at Tabakalera with Arts at CERN, Ars Electronica with transmediale, Arcade Seoul, the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale, Getty PST with Frieze, Gray Area in San Francisco, Basement Roma in Rome, Singapore Art Museum, Fiber Festival in the Netherlands, and Serpentine in London, among others. In 2025, they are a Creative Capital Awardee, a member of NEW INC in New York, and in residence at Cite des Arts in Paris.

The Alluvials (2024)

The Alluvials is a multi-level video game and film that examines the impact of drought and water scarcity in a near-future LA. Told through a variety of non-human and elemental perspectives, The Alluvials is a multi-species exploration into the effects of a heating planet and the subsequent climate crisis.
