Equipment & Tools

Studio/Lab has a range of hardware and software for Artist Members. We are equipped to cover as many bases of digital practice as possible, offering mid-to-high-end equipment and a general-use virtual production environment for you to get messy with.

Equipment List

  • Gaming-style Windows PCs fitted with GPUs (up to RTX 3080Ti), complete with 4K monitors, headphones, speakers and a graphics tablet.
  • Multiple VR system options: Meta Quest 2 and HTC VIVE headsets (including 3x HTC VIVE tracker 3.0).
  • An acoustically-treated recording studio with microphones and a basic mixing desk, ideal for recording voiceover, foley or livestreaming from.
  • Photography and videography equipment; cameras, lenses, grips, lights, filters, backdrops, green screens and accessories.
  • Live production equipment and switchers designed for broadcasting and documenting.
  • Presentation equipment, including short- and long-throw projectors, screens, speakers and microphones.
  • Further virtual production peripherals, such as game controllers.
  • Powerful 3D sculpting and photogrammetry tools for creating assets, such as high-quality 3D scanners and smartphone photo and LiDAR scanning.
  • A variety of resin and filament-based 3D printers.
  • Basic microcomputer provision (Arduino and Raspberry Pi) as well as equipment for prototyping electronic projects and a soldering station.
  • Game engine software for game development and virtual production; Unity, Wwise, Unreal Engine.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud, including a wide variety of video, audio, and image production software.
  • 3D animation options, including and Blender, with further CPU and GPU rendering options.
  • Realtime presentation software, good for VJing, projection mapping and AV performances.
  • Large amounts of secure file storage to save your work.
  • Simplistic motion capture system using tracking points.

In the future, we hope to add:

  • Specialised avatar, environment, and terrain creation tools

  • Networking capability between the PCs, for use as a low-end overnight render farm solution.

  • A growing asset library for your use, consisting of items made by FACT artists, Studio/Lab users and downloaded from online directories.

Other set-ups and solutions will be available on an ad hoc basis, depending on our workshop programme and the practices of current FACT residents and commissioned artists. If your needs are very highly specialised, we may be able to refer you to one of our partners elsewhere.
