Join us this summer for fun family film screenings, nature hunts, and creative activities at Bootle Library and Christ Church Bootle – all inspired by the magic of nature and part of this year’s public libraries' Summer Reading Challenge. Pop-up cinema, big adventures, and lots to explore – right on your doorstep.
The classic children’s book written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak in 1963 is vividly brought to life in this surreal adaptation of Where The Wild Things Are (2009). Max Records is your average 9-year-old with heaps of energy and a big imagination; however, he feels forgotten by his family. Feeling overlooked by his family, Max runs away from home and sets sail to a mysterious island full of giant talking beasts known as the ‘Wild Things’. Crowned as their king, Max promises to bring joy to the group - but soon discovers that leading is much harder than dreaming. Directed by Spike Jonze and co-written with Dave Eggers, Where the Wild Things Are is a visually stunning, emotionally rich journey through childhood chaos, longing, and creativity. With a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack by Karen O and the Kids, this is more than a children’s film - it’s a moving exploration of what it means to feel misunderstood, and the wild, messy ways we make sense of our emotions.
