Part of the Cinema in the City season

Join us this summer for fun family film screenings, nature hunts, and creative activities at Bootle Library and Christ Church Bootle – all inspired by the magic of nature and part of this year’s public libraries Summer Reading Challenge. Pop-up cinema, big adventures, and lots to explore – right on your doorstep.

Brothers Jodie and Hazel, along with their friend Alice, steal a video game from a nearby warehouse, inadvertently embarking on a wild adventure to try and play it. Along the way, they meet Petal, the daughter of a witch, and together their friendship grows stronger as they search for a speckled egg, try to avoid a gang of biker outlaws called the Enchanted Blade Gang, and get into hijinks across the rolling hills and rugged woodlands of sunny, rural Wyoming. Riddle of Fire (2023) is the debut feature from Weston Razooli - a stylish, sun-dappled throwback to 70s children’s fantasy films, filled with handmade charm, playful world-building, and a DIY spirit. Both nostalgic and refreshingly original, it’s a whimsical journey that celebrates friendship, mischief, and the magic of a good old-fashioned quest.

The Little Bird and the Leaf

Each film screening at Christ Church Bootle will follow one of Lena von Döhren's short films from her The Little Bird series. Before RIDDLE OF FIRE begins, you can see THE LITTLE BIRD AND THE LEAF (2012).

The winter wind blows away the little bird's best friend, an autumn leaf. He follows it and discovers the forest and the big world beyond. But mind the hungry fox, little bird!

ACCESS

The venue is fully wheelchair accessible.

Please note Riddle of Fire is classified as 12A. No one younger than 12 may be permitted to attend a 12A cinema screening unless they are accompanied by an adult. Adults planning to take a child under 12 to a 12A should consider whether the main feature is suitable for that child.
