Part of the Cinema in the City season

Join us this summer for fun family film screenings, nature hunts, and creative activities at Bootle Library and Christ Church Bootle – all inspired by the magic of nature and part of this year’s public libraries Summer Reading Challenge. Pop-up cinema, big adventures, and lots to explore – right on your doorstep.

After a devastating flood destroys their home, a ragtag group of animals (including a dark grey cat, a golden retriever and a capybara) embark on a courageous journey aboard a makeshift boat to survive the rising water levels. Flow (2024) won the Best Animated Feature at the 2025 Academy Awards for a reason. Not only is it visually stunning with an emotionally compelling story, it was also created by a small independent team with limited resources. With no spoken dialogue, Flow transcends language and age barriers, making it accessible for everyone. Every animal sound was voiced by real animals, including the sound designer’s own cat, Miut.

The Little Bird and the Bees

Each film screening at Christ Church Bootle will follow one of Lena von Döhren's short films from her The Little Bird series. Before FLOW begins, you can see THE LITTLE BIRD AND THE BEES (2020).

High above, the small bird enjoys the flowers of its maple tree. A mysterious humming that needs to be fathomed sends him on a journey into a magical world of flowers. Of course, the fiery red fox is soon on the little bird’s heels. Trailed by bad luck the fox makes acquaintance with the hard-working bees.

ACCESS

The venue is fully wheelchair accessible.

Cinema in the City in Bootle is presented by FACT and At the Library, in partnership with Sefton Libraries and Christ Church Bootle.
