Part of the Cinema in the City season

Join us this summer for fun family film screenings, nature hunts, and creative activities at Bootle Library and Christ Church Bootle – all inspired by the magic of nature and part of this year’s public libraries' Summer Reading Challenge. Pop-up cinema, big adventures, and lots to explore – right on your doorstep.

Journey deep into the lush, magical heart of the Australian rainforest in FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992). Crysta, a curious fairy, lives in harmony with the creatures of the forest - until a group of human loggers arrive, unknowingly unleashing Hexxus, a dark spirit of pollution and destruction trapped within the trees. As the forest comes under threat, Crysta and her friends must rally together to protect their home and restore balance.

Based on the stories by Diana Young, FernGully blends vibrant hand-drawn animation with early CGI to tell the uplifting story of nature’s triumph over the powers of pollution and deforestation. Featuring an all-star voice cast including Robin Williams, Tim Curry, and Samantha Mathis, it’s a heartfelt tale about the power of nature, the danger of unchecked industry, and the importance of standing up for the world around us.
