I CAN’T FOLLOW YOU ANYMORE (2024)

Browser-based video game

The revolution is coming

but are you fit to lead it?

I CAN’T FOLLOW YOU ANYMORE is a browser-based game that incorporates the glitchy aesthetics of video games from the early 2000s with vampire mythology and an interrogation of authority.

Disillusionment with the state of the world and a desire for change can be mobilised by those who promise an alternative way forward. In a culture where popularity and amplified opinions can be leveraged in exchange for influence and power, Danielle’s work encourages us to think critically about who we follow and where they may be leading us.

To play, select the principles that you wish to stand for as you lead the revolution and then dance or fight your way through each level, attempting to gain followers who will join in your pursuit of building a new system.

I CAN’T FOLLOW YOU ANYMORE interrogates what  the word ‘revolutionary’ can mean. Using gameplay and storytelling, Danielle centres Black trans identity to consider our complicated relationship to ideologies, people in positions of influence, and the consequences that come with following them blindly.
