Trojany (She/Her) was born in Icó, Ceará, Brazil, and is currently based in Fortaleza. She grew up among reservoirs, rivers, and small farms — Icó is a border town situated between the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba. She was nominated for the PIPA Prize in 2024 and has taken part in artistic residencies and educational programmes at institutions such as Solar dos Abacaxis, Jaca, and Kinobeat.
Her research investigates the Indigenous and Afro-Brazilian roots of the region, paying particular attention to the conflicts and contradictions embedded in the dynamics of survival and transformation shaped by colonial legacies and the political projects of modernity — including the construction of reservoirs, which have profoundly altered both the landscape and the lives of many traditional communities.
Working with an expanded notion of the “archive”, the artist explores the relationships between language, the body, machines, memory-making, virtuality, and the internet. These concerns materialise in installations, flags, taxidermy, GIFs, films, and performances.
