This December, we are programming a film season that amplifies Palestinian voices. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians who are responding to the current emergency in Gaza.

FACT believes absolutely in the protection of human life and human rights. We condemn the violence that has been inflicted in recent weeks and we call for an immediate ceasefire to end hostilities against all civilians and work towards a peaceful resolution.

As a cultural institution in Liverpool, we are dedicated to presenting art and film that showcases the stories and cultural life of many diverse communities from the UK and beyond.

The film season includes Gaza (2019) - a documentary that depicts people plagued by conflict but not defined by it, Alam (2022) - a narrative feature which gives prominence to the Palestinian youth, and Samouni Road (2018) - a blend of recreated live action and animation that conveys a multifaceted portrait of a family before, during and after a tragic event. This film season’s aim is to help to spread awareness, educate and inspire.

Screenings take place on the first three Friday afternoons in December. Doors will open at 15:30 and each film will begin at 16:00.

GAZA (2019)

Fri 1 Dec, 16:00

From directors Garry Keane & Andrew McConnell, Gaza is a tender portrait of a beleaguered humanity. Frequently labelled as the world’s largest open-air prison, Gaza makes an appearance on news reports whenever a confrontation erupts between Israel and Hamas. The documentary, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival, looks at life beyond this, focusing on the banality of the everyday, the intimacy of family and the landscapes beyond the headlines.

Writer and director, Firas Khoury presents narrative feature, Alam. This coming-of-age story follows Tamer (Mahmood Bakri), a Palestinian teenager living in Israel, and his friends as he comes to grips with his fraught heritage. Through his film, Khoury attempts to bring to light the circumstances under which Palestinian youth are forced to develop, and the sharp existential contradictions they are subjected to at a young age.
