New Materialisms and Old Observatories

Join FACT for an evening of talks exploring the historical and philosophical contexts to The New Observatory, including discussion of ideas for Bidston Observatory’s reinvention as an artistic research centre.


Dr Rick Dolphijn is a writer, philosopher and holds a Senior Fellowship at the Centre for the Humanities, Utrecht University, and is currently writing a monograph entitled The Cracks of the Contemporary.


Prof Aud Sissel Hoel is Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Image Knowledge Gestaltung Cluster, Humboldt University, Berlin, and is currently undertaking a project entitled Styles of Objectivity: Agency, Alignment and Automation in Image-Guided Surgery.  


Fiona James and Kym Ward are arts practitioners/researchers, and two members of a collective setting up an Arts Research Centre at Bidston Observatory, Birkenhead.
