Follow: Young Film Programmers Part 2

26 January / 7.30pm / The Box / FREE, booking required

Our current exhibition Follow is all about how we live on social media and what happens to us when we market ourselves online. What does it mean to be a citizen of the wider online community?

We’ve been collaborating with BFI Hub programme Film Audience Network to bring you a series of screenings that explore these themes in more depth. The programme has been developed by a team of young people who have researched and critiqued a range of films for you to engage with. Showcasing everything from blockbusters to documentaries to short films made locally, this is a diverse, exciting programme designed for true film fans of all ages.

Join the conversation! Suitable for ages 15 and up.

Clapping for the Wrong Reasons
Director Hiro Murai / Starring Donald Glover, Abella Anderson, Chance the Rapper / USA / 2013 / 25 min

A short film that subtly explores the connection between fame and reality, Clapping for the Wrong Reasons follows a famous rapper around his LA mansion. We see his encounters with an array of people situated on his property, and we're invited to consider the impact (if any) on a life simply because it is public and meaningful to others.

Director Dan Gilroy / Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton / USA / 2014 / 117 mins

Also set in LA, Nightcrawler follows Lou Bloom on his quest to be the first cameraman on the scene of dramatic crimes and collisions in the city. In impressing newsrooms with his footage and rise to the top of his profession, Lou walks the line that separates fact and fiction, documentation and fabrication.
