In 1968 a group of female workers went on strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant over unequal rates of pay. Their protest made national news and gave huge impetus to the campaign for equal rights for women in the '70s, which successfully brought about the Sexual Discrimination Act of 1975.

Forty-two years later, Nigel Cole's (CALENDAR GIRLS) heartfelt dramatisation starring Sally Hawkins (HAPPY-GO-LUCKY) is a poignant reflection on British social reform with a breezy modern tone that evokes the Ealing style of humour. Following in the footsteps of social-realist films with a feel-good twist, such as BILLY ELLIOT and THE FULL MONTY, this is poised to be the next must-see British comedy, with the stellar ensemble cast giving the film an extra bite.
