Careers Advice for Uncertain Times, Jul – Sept 2018

How do we provide careers advice for a job market characterised by change and uncertainty? Through this commission, Artist and Design Researcher Naho Matsuda will investigate the future of the Careers Advisor and Careers Service in the context of a rapidly shifting job market. Naho’s goal is to unravel how algorithmic culture and machine learning technologies will influence the tools, approaches and possibilities of career advice professionals in their support of teenagers and young adults, in an ever increasingly non-linear, precarious labour market.

For Naho’s residency FACT has built a joint-residency through a partnership with digital skills SME OhThisWay and the University of Liverpool Careers Service. This collaboration will compare and contrast peer based guidance and collaboration models, drawn from the digital sector and co-working real-estate vendors, with that of the established careers service model in the University Sector.
