Kimmo Modig (FL)

Playable game; online game; exhibition interventions and Young Person’s workshops.

Finnish artist Kimmo Modig’s practice is centred around discursive methods, exploring how meaning is created and under what kind of limitations, when humans interact through and within art. He shies away from thematic or medium-based productions.

The Learning programme brings together artists and participants to produce and co-design artworks and creative tools. Kimmo Modig, an artist and sound-designer based in Finland, teamed up with a group of young people to create personal soundscapes during his residency at FACT during States of Play: Roleplay Reality.

This collection of tracks was made by Elliot & Tyler, Lainey, Liv, Rayvn Heart, and Vinnie, together with Kimmo. Thank you for listening!

Support for the workshop with the participants came from from GYRO / YPAS Liverpool. Kimmo Modig's residency at FACT is part of the EMARE Residency, and is supported by The Finnish Institute in London, and FRAME Contemporary Art.

Modig will undertake an eight week-long residency at FACT in February 2018. During this time, Modig will develop a multimedia commission with a group of LGBTQ+ young people in Liverpool, with whom FACT has previously collaborated. This collaborative commission will explore methods of self-expression adopted through digital platforms in the LGBTQ+ community. The result will be an artwork taking place both in the virtual and physical space and a programme of activities co-designed by the group of participants, reflecting on self identity in social media.

This work is a Young Person Commission for FACT. Modig’s residency and the production of the work is supported by the EMARE (European Media Art Residency Exchange) Programme 2017.
