Artworks constantly on display around the building and the surrounding public spaces. The design of FACT is the result of close collaboration between FACT’s Lead Artist, Clive Gillman, and architects at Austin-Smith:Lord. FACT wanted a building to reflect its aspirations – as much through images, sounds and texts as through architectural features.
Clive Gillman worked with Austin-Smith:Lord to develop artworks or features that form an integral part of the building. Some are part of the building design itself – such as the zinc-panelled exterior and its interactive lighting system – while others are new commissions in response to the building design process – such as the Singh Twins’ beautiful lightbox portraits in the Bar.
The work of the Lead Artist was also supported by the Royal Society of Artists through their Art for Architecture scheme.
