Older Men's Digital History

  • 12 September 2014

FACT have been awarded a grant from the PH Holt Foundation work on a new short-term project with older men, using the digital world to explore local heritage.

The project will work with artists and technologists to develop a series of podcast audio walks around parts of North Liverpool, which can then be downloaded onto smart phones, tablets and MP3 devices.

It is thought that older men can experience the most difficulty in later life with loneliness and isolation, especially if life and domestic circumstances change. Retirement brings about a loss of identity and purpose and personal budgets are diminished. In addition to this, older people are amongst the most digitally excluded groups in society today.

It is hoped that through a mixture of social meet-ups, learning sessions and informative talks and walks around local heritage sites the project will help the groups develop new digital skills, whilst sharing their life experiences and recording the life experiences of others.

The project is free to get involved with! To join in, come along to our information sharing session on Friday 12 September 2 - 5pm in The Box at FACT. Call Laura Yates on 0151 707 4407 for more information.
