Constant Dullaart

What are the difficulties of assessing value through ‘likes’ or ‘follows’? Constant Dullaart’s work often deals with mechanisms of control in the online world and the hierarchies of social media. High Retention, Slow Delivery is an online performance in which he purchased 2.5 million fake Instagram followers. Dullaart then distributed them amongst a selection of the art-world, ensuring each person had 100,000 followers, resetting the levels by which we measure a user’s popularity. By targeting the art world in particular, Dullaart is making a comment on the impact which these systems of validation have on the way artists make, and disseminate, work online.
