New York Times - Special Edition

Copies of a spoofed New York Times - Special Edition (2008) newspaper declaring the Iraq war over will get a further outing at FACT. Six months in the making, 1.2 million copies of the paper were handed out in major cities across the US in November 2008.

Created to challenge the political discussion around the Iraq war and prompt a newly-elected Barack Obama to keep his campaign promises, the paper attempts to realize a self-fulfilling prophecy by elaborating on a fictional, but possible, future. Articles spell out a liberal utopia of national health care, the abolition of corporate lobbying, a maximum wage for CEOs, and, the article's centerpiece, the end of the Iraq war. The action, credited to 'thousands of volunteers', sparked widespread news coverage.
