Crisis in the Credit System

Melanie Gilligan's film Crisis in the Credit System (2008), originally commissioned and produced by Artangel Interaction, is a fictional four-part drama that tells a story of five investment bank employees asked to brainstorm solutions to today's dangerous financial climate at a company retreat. The role-play exercise starts out with typical 'double or nothing' approaches - manipulating share prices, developing complex financial instruments - before becoming increasingly bizarre, leading ultimately to disturbing conclusions. While firmly rooted in the present, the film paints the picture of an imaginary future that unsettles even its own city worker protagonists.
