The Big Meeting [12A]

Runtime: 91 mins

Distributor: Miracle Communications Ltd.

Every second Saturday in July, since 1871, miners, trade unions and the public have taken over the city of Durham for a major event known locally as ‘The Big Meeting’. A celebration of noise, colour, culture, creativity, unity and endeavour, the Durham Miners’ Gala draws in two hundred thousand people, who parade through the streets to honour their heritage. Following four protagonists over the course of the Gala, this documentary explores the past, present and future of this momentous working-class occasion and the Labour movement as a whole. Contains infrequent strong language and one or more sequences involving extended flashing or flickering light, or regular patterns.
