Each screening brings a cult classic, an arthouse favourite or an offbeat icon back to the big screen for one night only.

This month's film STASHED at FACT is a haunting and twisted fairy tale that will make you question how it was crafted by human hands.

If you like directors such as Ari Aster, David Lynch, and Jan Švankmajer, and films such as Coraline (2009), Hereditary (2018), and Eraserhead (1977), you will like The Wolf House.

STASHED takes place on the second Wednesday of every month at FACT. Under 25? Tickets are only £5!

Join us on Wednesday 8 July 2026 for a supremely strange and supernatural distortion of centuries old fairy tales, where a mysterious house manifests the deepest feelings and fears of Chilean refugee, Maria.

The Wolf House (2018) - or La Casa Lobo in the original Spanish - is an animated horror film like no other. Our protagonist Maria escapes a religious colony in Chile, and takes refuge in an abandoned house in the woods. As the interior begins to transform around her, what starts as a story of liberation soon descends into a nightmarish twist on classic wolf-centric fairy tales, such as The Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood.

Once upon a time there was a country within a country, from where nobody could escape.

Maria is a fictional character, but the Colonia Dignidad from which she escapes was an actual German colony established in Chile after World War II. Its inclusion brings a very real layer of horror to this surreal animated horror film, as the cult-like colony (led by former Nazi colonel Paul Schäfer) became notorious for human rights violations during the military dictatorship of General Pinochet.

The Wolf House’s production was a labour of love, five years in the making, which blends hand drawn animations with stop-motion scenes built out of paint, paper, tape and furniture. What the film required in time to make, it matched in the amount of space needed, as it was shot (and exhibited) in several galleries and museums around Latin America and Europe. The directors Joaquín Cociña and Cristóbal León considered the space a workshop, not a film set, and offered visitors the opportunity to help them animate.

The work environment was experimental and constantly evolving, and that is reflected in the animation’s shapeshifting, dreamlike aesthetic. Sometimes the team would create masterpiece paintings that would only be visible for a single frame, and other times they would become frustrated with a sculpture and destroy it on camera, incorporating that into the stop-motion.

Our Young Film Programmers chose this hidden gem to be STASHED at FACT because of its offbeat and beautifully deranged style, which contains layers upon layers of symbolism. It's a real triumph of filmmaking that should be experienced by animation, horror and cinema fans alike.
