Join us on Wednesday 11 March 2026 for the first animated film to be STASHED at FACT. Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis (2007) is a deeply personal and autobiographical account of her coming-of-age against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution, with a satirical sense of humour that highlights the absurdity of the Islamic Republic’s regime. The journey begins from the perspective of 10-year-old Satrapi, whose child’s eye cuts through the tension with innocence and cheeky wit.

Marjane Satrapi’s internationally acclaimed feature film was adapted from her equally critically praised graphic novel of the same name. The black-and-white hand-drawn animation pays homage to the original illustrations, making it feel as if the pages of the graphic novel are being brought to life.

Persepolis stashed march sticker

By telling her story through the page and screen, Marjane Satrapi became one of the best-selling Iranian authors and the first woman to receive a nomination in the ‘Best Animated Feature’ category at the Academy Awards. The STASHED Young Film Programmers group chose this film in honour of International Women’s Day, which is not only about celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, but also a reminder that the fight for equality for all women is far from over.

Everyone that comes to STASHED: Persepolis will receive an "AT STASHED PUNK IS NOT DED" sticker (as pictured).

This screening takes place in The Box on the Ground Floor. After the screening, there will be a post-film discussion where everyone is welcome to share their thoughts about Persepolis.

This film is rated 12 and contains moderate violence, drugs and one use of strong language
