Join us on Wednesday 10 June 2026 for a special screening of the grand finale of Gregg Araki's Teen Apocalypse Trilogy, described in the director's words as "Beverly Hills, 90210 on acid".

Nowhere (1997) captures a day in the hilarious and tragic life of Dark (played by James Duval, Araki's face of all three films), a sensitive, alienated 18-year-old who is urgently trying to find his one true love. Along the way he meets an interconnected web of zany characters, played by a star-studded ensemble cast chock-full of 90s young Hollywood icons like Guillermo Diaz, Ryan Phillippe, Rose McGowan, Shannon Doherty, and Heather Graham.

Nowhere 2

Chosen by our Young Film Programmers as a Pride Month pick with a 'show, don't tell' attitude towards sexuality, and many fun, diverse queer characters and relationships that aren’t defined by their LGBTQ+ identity. The performances are exaggerated and camp, and the story plays out like a sci-fi soap opera, yet there is a sincerity at the heart of this film (especially in James Duval's performance) that teens from all generations can relate to.

“It’s about what it really feels like to be confused, to be in love, to watch your girlfriend leave the party with some other guy. It’s about totally genuine and sincere feelings.”

- Gregg Araki

Post-VHS generation, Nowhere has really lived up to its name, as it's been near impossible to find or watch in the UK. This is the first time the long-awaited 4K remastered restoration, released in 2023, will be screened in Merseyside.

Don't worry if you've not seen the previous two instalments, Totally F*ed Up (1993) and The Doom Generation (1995), as the films are not directly connected in narrative - think of them as thematic and spiritual siblings. Nowhere is the perfect introduction (or reintroduction) to Gregg Araki's work ahead of his newest feature film, I Want Your Sex, which releases in July 2026, and boasts another vibrant ensemble cast, including cameos from Charli XCX, Johnny Knoxville and Margaret Cho!

TL;DR? Nowhere is sexually fluid, frenetic and fun - just in time for Pride Month. Think less 'bury your gays' and more 'vaporise your gays with a ray gun'!
