Pi [15]

Runtime: 84 mins

Distributor: Lionsgate

With more than a passing resemblance to the films of David Lynch, Darren Aronofsky’s startlingly original debut concerns a reclusive maths genius who’s convinced that he has found a pattern hidden within the seemingly random numbers generated by the US Stock Market. He becomes obsessed by the search for the key which will allow him to unlock the code and thus predict the rise and fall of the stocks. Is he an inspired visionary, or a disturbed loner trying to find meaning where there is none? Brilliantly constructed in harsh black and white, this is a disconcerting, at times hallucinatory vision of paranoia.
