King of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters
Times & Tickets
DODGEBALL may have been subtitled ‘a true underdog story’, but this hilarious and touching documentary about competitive video-gaming really is true.
Successful entrepreneur Billy Mitchell is not only the self-styled king of chicken-wing hot sauces, but a living legend in the world of retro gaming.
In the 1980s Mitchell set the world record for the highest score on Donkey Kong, an achievement that has remained unbeaten for almost 25 years. But in 2005 Steve Wiebe, a mild-mannered underachiever who plays the game on an old console in his garage, produces a video of himself scoring what seems to be a new world record of more than 1,000,000 points.
New tricks, old rivalries and arcade skulduggery lead to a showdown between the two men that tests not just their hand-eye coordination but also their determination, drive and personal integrity.
