Psych Fest 2016: An Opening Dispatch

Friday 26 August / 4pm - late / FACT, Ropewalks Square, Bold Street Coffee, Black Lodge / FREE (booking required for VR demo)

FACT and Liverpool International Festival of Pyschedelia have joined forces to deliver a series of events, from film screenings of classic psychedelic cinema to live outdoor performances and a mind-bending VR event.

Join us for An Opening Dispatch, as we celebrate the imminent arrival of Psych Fest 2016 with a special VR demo, followed by an exhibition opening at Bold Street Coffee and afterparty at Black Lodge (Kitchen Street, Baltic Triangle).

From 4pm at FACT, you're invited to join longtime Super Furry Animals illustrative whizz Pete Fowler, as he and Liverpool Virtual Reality aficionados Draw&Code discuss and provide insight into their upcoming collaboration for this year’s Liverpool Psych Fest, Perambulator V1. An open, drop-in showcase will run from 4pm, then from 6pm, Pete Fowler and Draw&Code will give take part in a live Q&A - spaces are limited, so please book in advance.

After the VR adventures, Ropewalks Square outside FACT comes alive with a performance from Liverpool drone-troupe (and de facto PZYK house band) Bonnacons Of Doom (9pm) alongside a light show by the Kazimier's Venya Krutikov. Also catch the opening of Psych Fest’s month-long print installation at Bold Street Coffee on the evening, with Pete Fowler on the decks 8-11pm. The evening comes to a close at the Black Lodge, for late night digi-grit noize with PZYK DJs (11pm onwards).

Leading up to Liverpool Psych Fest 2016, FACT and Picturehouse have curated a special season of Psychedelia in film, bringing together some of our favourite whacked out big screen moments. Full programme here.
