Video Ergo Sum Picture house at FACT

FACT and Forma present this symposium which will respond to Echo, the new video installation by Mark Boulos, and will examine how art and neuroscience intersect in this work.

It will explore issues of self-perception and self-representation including ecstasy, alienation, hallucinations, psychedelia, out-of-body experiences and ‘the double’.

Echo was inspired by Professor Olaf Blanke’s article “Video Ergo Sum” and his research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, for which he induces out-of-body experiences using 3D video.

Speakers include: neurologist Professor Olaf Blanke, Kerstin Winking and Director of FACT, Mike Stubbs

The event will begin with a tour of the exhibition and introduction to the work by Mark Boulos, followed by a Q&A from the audience.

Free but tickets required. Please book in advance!

Video Ergo Sum is part of Abandon Normal Devices festival, hosted in 2013 by FACT.  For further information on the rest of the AND festival programme visit
