Actress Samantha Morton (CONTROL) takes an unblinkered look at the British childcare system in her gritty and personal directorial debut based in part on her own experiences. THE UNLOVED stars newcomer Molly Windsor as Lucy, a schoolgirl who has suffered unspeakable trauma at the hands of her alcoholic father (Carlyle, SUMMER) and abandoning mother (Lynch, THE SCOUTING BOOK FOR BOYS). After a visit from a social worker, Lucy is placed in a care home, where she sparks up a relationship with outspoken older resident, Lauren (Socha, Misfits). Lucy seems to be finally experiencing the childhood she was denied by her neglectful parents, but staff transgressions sour her stay and she decides to go looking for her family.
