Adams’s meditative opus about the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship makes its highly anticipated Metropolitan Opera debut. The Death of Klinghoffer – considered by many to be Adams’s greatest opera – overwhelmed audiences when it premiered just a few years after the tragic incident itself.
Featuring breathtaking choral passages and inventive video projections, this dreamlike production by director Tom Morris (War Horse) balances the opera’s poetic libretto and intense dramatic narrative. Tony Award winner Paulo Szot takes the leading role, and David Robertson conducts.
