The original uncut version of GODZILLA, the classic apocalyptic monster movie from 1950s Japan.
The eponymous Godzilla, a gigantic radioactive reptile that bursts out of the Pacific Ocean and goes on the rampage in Tokyo, embodies the disastrous consequences of nuclear power and humankind’s tampering with the environment.
A scientist invents the ultimate weapon to overpower the monster, but he becomes more afraid of the possibility that, in human hands, the device will turn into a weapon of mass destruction. Japan’s first foray into big-budget sci-fi, with its model cityscapes and early special effects that delight cult film fans, is not only a spectacular piece of entertainment but also resonates with a striking pertinence today.
