I Am Love ( Io Sono L'Amore)

Directed by Luca Guadagnino / Italy / 2009

I Am Love is an elegant cinematic foray into the private life of the Italian aristocratic Recchi family. Russian-born wife Emma's (Tilda Swinton) life in particular is turned upside down when she falls in love with her sons friend Antonio and begins a passionate affair that will change the family forever. Designed with incredible attention to culinary detail, the film uses the preparation of food and its cultural significance not only as a vehicle to define love, control and betrayal, but also as a means of self-expression, epiphany and passion.

For the making of I Am Love, the Italian chef Carlo Cracco, owner of the legendary Cracco Peck restaurant in Milan advised on much of the food and recipes, from traditional Russian Ukha soup to pea cream with courgette flowers.
