This psychedelic thriller by visionary French maverick Gaspar Noé (Irreversible, I Stand Alone), is a visceral journey set against the thumping, neon, club scene of Tokyo, starring Nathaniel Brown and Paz de la Huerta. Shot from the point of view of a recently killed American drug-dealer, Enter the Void is a technically stunning endurance feat which hurls the viewer into an astonishing trip through life and death, as well as the wonderful and horrible moments in between. An immersive and mind-bending experience, this is a metaphysical, philosophical and psychological thrill ride which you just have to let yourself fall into.
Our favourite quote about this film comes from Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw, in a review from 2010: “This is a grandiose hallucinatory journey into, and out of, hell: drugged, neon-lit and with a fully realised nightmare-porn aesthetic that has to be seen to be believed. Love him or loathe him – and I've done both in my time – Gaspar Noé is one of the very few directors who is actually trying to do something new with the medium, battling at the boundaries of the possible.”
Leading up to Psych Fest, FACT and Picturehouse present a special season of Psychedelia in film inspired by Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia. There will also be a series of artist-made shorts curated by FACT showing in the Festival’s cinema space for Psych Fest pass holders.
