Director: Fritz Lang.
Starring: Lil Dagover, Walter Janssen, Bernhard Goetzke. Germany 1921. 98 mins.
A visually ambitious allegory of love, fidelity and death, Der müde Tod established director Fritz Lang as one of the leading filmmakers of the German silent era, and laid the groundwork for his genre-defying masterpieces Die Nibelungen and Metropolis. The heroine (Dagover), who in her dreams is confronted by Mr Death, argues for the life of her beloved, but is unable to make the personal sacrifices that Death insists upon. This stunning new 2K digital restoration preserves the original German intertitles and simulates the historic colour tinting and toning of its initial release.
