Live from the Royal Albert Hall, presented by BBC Radio 2
Friday 6 June, 8.00 (doors 7.30)
A live cinema broadcast of the sellout D-Day 70th anniversary concert presented by BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night.
Hosts Jeremy Vine, Dermot O’Leary and Louise Minchin will re-tell the story of key moments of D-Day alongside a cast of actors lead by Patrick Stewart playing Sir Winston Churchill.
The backdrop to the historic and poignant narration will come from The BBC Concert Orchestra and a military band featuring musicians drawn from all three UK Armed Forces.
There will be further performances from Katherine Jenkins, who will sing a virtual duet with Dame Vera Lynn, Beverley Knight and a special rendition of ‘In My Dreams’ by the Military Wives Choir.
Folk singer Seth Lakeman will pay tribute to his grandfather, who served on D-Day, through his performance of a song written for his grandfather after they visited the beaches of Arromanches where a young Seth learnt first hand about the events of the fateful day.
Profits from the Royal Albert Hall concert and the cinema release will be donated to the charities The Royal British Legion, SSAFA and SkillForce.
