As the UK's leading media arts centre, FACT is proud to present two Liverpool Film Night's showcasing the best short films of 2012 made by, or featuring, local filmmakers and performers

Liverpool Film Night

Liverpool Film Night is an event for filmmakers in Merseyside that sets out to discover and showcase the best local talent producing film in the region. This year, Liverpool Film night will be programmed by Guest Curator, Martin Wallace.

Selected films will be screened at FACT on 29 November 2012.

Young Liverpool Film Night (for 13-19 year olds)

This year, filmmakers are invited to respond to the Liverpool Biennial theme The Unexpected Guest, although films submitted do not have to be made with this theme in mind.

Freehand, a panel of young people based at FACT will choose their favourite films to be shown. Awards will also be given in each category. Check out the brilliant sting created by Freehanders at the right-hand side of this page!

Selected films will be screened at FACT on 23 October 2012.

Liverpool Film Night is an event for filmmakers in Merseyside that sets out to discover and showcase the best local talent producing film in the region.

Filmmakers working in any medium are invited to submit their films for consideration. The film must have been made within the last 18 months and be no longer than 15 minutes in length.

All genres are welcome: drama, comedy, animation, documentary, experimental, music video or horror.  

This year, FACT's Liverpool Film night will be programmed by Guest Curator, Martin Wallace. Martin Wallace is a filmmaker based in Merseyside who was recently nominated for the prestigious Michael Powell award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival for his feature film debut, Small Creatures (2012).

Selected films will be screened at FACT on 29 November 2012.

Filmmakers will be invited to take part in a Q&A chaired by Martin Wallace and FACT's Curator.

Rules for Submission

  • Running times must be 15 minutes or less
  • You must not infringe copyright
  • Films must be submitted on Mini DV or DVD
  • You must be resident within the Merseyside Region
  • Your film must have been produced within the last year

FACT's young people's programme Freehand is delighted to present the latest edition of Young Liverpool Film Night!

Young Liverpool Film Night is a film festival for young people living in Merseyside aged 13-19. This year, filmmakers are invited to respond to the Liverpool Biennial theme The Unexpected Guest, although films submitted do not have to be made with this theme in mind. Films must be made within the last year and be no longer than 10 minutes long. All genres are welcome.

A panel of young people based at FACT will choose their favourite films to be shown on our cinema screen. Awards will also be given in each category.

Selected films will be screened at FACT on 23 October 2012.

Rules for submissions

  • Running times of films must be 10 minutes or less.
  • The content must be appropriate for a 'Universal' audience. No swearing, sexual references, hate language/content.
  • You must be aged between 13 and 19.
  • You must not infringe copyright - you must have permission for any music or images you have used that are not your own.
  • Films must be submitted on Vimeo or by DVD.
  • You must complete one entry form per film entered. You may enter more than one film, but you must complete a form for each film you submit.
  • You must have permission from everyone in your film to enter it.
  • You must be resident within the Merseyside Region.
  • Your film must have been made within the last year. 

How do I submit my film?

Download the YLFN Submissions Form on the right-hand side of this page, read all of the guidelines, complete the checklist and ensure that you fill in all of the sections including the Data Protection infirmation. Once you have completed the form, you can choose whether to submit your film by post or on Vimeo. You can find all the information on how to do this on the form.
