Short Hills refers to a suburban town of the same name in New Jersey, where Margreiter visited her aunt and cousin, a Chinese-American family, at home and questioned them about their favourite TV soaps. Dawson's Creek emerged as the favourite.
The title not only suggests that her video should be viewed as a soap opera - albeit a rather different one...it also merges the real location and the possible media plot into a single entity. Short Hills brings into question the role of the (female) viewers of TV soaps and their relationships to the characters they follow week-in/week-out.
