In July 2012, YouTube opened the doors of the Creator Space in the centre of London, advertised as a ‘free’ resource but only available to those YouTubers with 1000+ subscribers.
Not sure what you’d like to make? Provocations around the space and familiar videos encourage you to think critically about what you produce and why. Join us at the fortnightly Do Something! Saturday programme designed by artist Louise Adkins, which explores themes of the 'real' and online identity through a restaging of popular TED talks, questioning the reasons why we produce online videos in the ways we do.
The studio space is equipped with; a large Green Screen measuring 8m across; a professional lighting rig with daylight high-frequency tubes; a Sony HXR-NX30E camera for recording HD video and audio; an autocue; and a comfort monitor for directors.
The editing space contains 4 iMacs loaded with Apple’s iMovie so that videos can be edited, green screen-backgrounds applied, and finished content uploaded to our dedicated Follow Youtube channel.
Once you've filmed your movie, you can take away your raw or edited content for whatever use you'd like using your own portable hard drives or USB storage. You can record messages for family or friends, create a video-blog entry, re-enact scenes from their favourite films, perform a piece of music, recite a poem, or anything else you can imagine!
The space is open to all visitors during normal gallery opening hours, but use of the green screen can be reserved ahead of time. Arrangements can be also be potentially made for use of the studio space when the gallery is closed. If you are involved in a group that would like to use the space for a workshop or anything else, get in touch with Gallery Mediator Jon Couch at email@example.com or call 0151 707 4471
