Harun Farocki

Harun Farocki was born in Nový Jicin (Neutitschein) in then-German-annexed Czechoslovakia but has lived and worked in Berlin for over forty years. Farocki studied at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (West) between 1966 and 1968 where he began his prolific filmmaking career. In 1974 he became author and editor of the journal Filmkritik in Munich and between 1993 and 1999 was visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1966 Farocki has created over 100 productions for television and cinema and his work spans the genres of children’s television, documentary films, film essays and narrative films. In 2004 Farocki became a guest professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and was appointed full professor from 2006–11.
