FACT has joined forces with the Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival for the first ever Liverpool Arabic Film Festival which is launching today and running until 10 July. LAFF brings to Liverpool a rare opportunity to see brand new releases, UK premieres and classics from across the Arabic speaking world.
 

The screening of Zindeeq will be kicking off the festival this evening at 6.30pm and will be accompanied by a Q&A from the film’s producer, Michael Khelif (you can see the trailer for Zindeeq below)
 

Other highlights of the seven day programme include Ahmed Abdulla's colourful art scene drama Microphone on the 07 July which will be accompanied by a special Q&A with internationally renowned Egyptian actor and activist Khaled Abol Naga.
 

We will also be screening rare 35mm prints of three Egyptian classics by late great auteur Youssef Chahine. The films will include introductions from Brian Whitaker, The Guardian's former Middle East Editor, Sight and Sound Web Editor Nick Bradshaw, and David Pendleton, Programmer of the Harvard University Film Archive.
