On Wednesday 19 September our season kicks off with the North West premiere of The Forgotten Space which explores the global maritime economy and the legacy of the sea.
Photographer and filmmaker Allan Sekula and author Noël Burch's
film essay looks at the everyday people whose role in the world
economy goes unappreciated and unnoticed. Following cargo from
container ships to barges, trains and trucks, the film meets the
workers, engineers, planners and politicians who play an important
but invisible role in our lives.
With 'surfing' now more likely to mean going on the web than
getting in the water, Allan Sekula and Noel Burch set off on a
journey around the world to rediscover the sea and the part it plays in
the economy. The Forgotten Space is particularly timely
and relevant with Europe and America facing recession and
government austerity pushing more and more people to the fringes of
society.
We'll also be keeping our galleries open until 9pm on this evening so you can take a look at our Liverpool Biennial 2012 exhibition. The galleries will be open late every Wednesday evening during the Biennial.
