From the title, Into The Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life, you know that the documentary is going to be nothing short of pretty chilling. In fact, Herzog describes it as, "a gaze into the abyss of the human soul".
The documentary focuses on one crime, a triple homicide that took place in Texas ten years ago. Herzog looks at the whole picture of devastation that occurred in the aftermath of the deaths. He meets the perpetrators, Michael Parry who has been condemned to execution in only eight days, and Jason Burkett who is ten years into his forty-year sentence. He also meets the friends and families of the deceased, as well as those involved in delivering the death sentence to Parry.
The film forms part of Herzog's Death Row Project, which also includes a series of shorter tv films (find out more about it here via BFI). The screening will be accompanied by a Question and Answer session with Werner Herzog beamed live via satellite from The Gate Picturehouse in Notting Hill.
Into The Abyss will take place at 6.15pm on Tuesday 27 March. You can buy tickets online, in person at the Box Office, or by calling 0871 902 5737.
