It is the Canadian artist's first major show in the UK and will feature a selection of his work, including his most famous award-winning and groundbreaking Very Nervous System (1986-2004).
Rokeby has confirmed he will take part in an Artist's Talk event at FACT, giving visitors the opportunity to hear his inspirations and ideas behind his cutting-edge artwork. He has also selected a rarely seen but moving film from Andrei Tarkovsky, The Mirror (1975) as his Artist's Choice. Just three years after the release of his science fiction classic Solyaris, Tarkovsky offers this personal look on Russian history and family life. Also known as Zerkalo, The Mirror mixes flashbacks, historical footage and orginal poetry to illustrate the reminiscences of a dying man about his children during WWII, his teenage years and a painful divorce in his family.
FACT's experimental and adventurous SEEN film programme will screen two films, both featuring the work of Finnish artist Mika Taanila, to augment the work on display in the galleries and futher examine the themes and ideas behind it.
For younger visitors, FACT's education programme will hold a gallery workshop to allow under 12s to involve themselves in Rokeby's work and even create their own unique artwork.
