After premiering at the Sundance Festival to a standing ovation and winning both the Grand Jury and Audience prizes, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is coming to FACT's cinema screens. The film follows a Greg, a high school film maker, forced by his parents to hang out with a childhood friend recently diagnosed with leukaemia.

The films Greg makes are hilarious parodies of classic films, the stand out titles being A Sockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Butt, Jurassic Skate Park and Grumpy Cul-de-sacs, an extremely stretched Mean Streets pun.

To celebrate the film’s arrival, Picturehouse at FACT are launching two competitions aimed at anyone with a flair for creativity!

The first competition is our #MeAndEarlFACT Vine Competition where we are encouraging film makers, or people who know how to deliver a pun like Greg, to make use of their Vine apps and parody a film of their choice. Once you have finished filming, give it a snappy title and share it with us on Twitter using @FACT_Cinema and #MeAndEarlFACT.

Our favourites will be featured on the FACT website and featured during Liverpool Film Night in November, while the competition’s winner will receive a copy of the film’s original novel and a full FACT Membership, which entitles them to 4 free cinema tickets, £2 off when they buy a full priced cinema ticket and discounts in The Garden by Leaf at FACT, the FACT Bar and other local venues.

The second competition is the #MeAndEarlFACT Poster Competition, and for this we want artists and designers to create their very own cult poster for Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Once you have finished your masterpiece share it with us on Twitter, again using @FACT_Cinema and #MeAndEarlFACT.

The best posters will be displayed in Picturehouse’s box office and featured on the FACT, while the competition’s winner will receive a copy of the film’s original novel and a full FACT Membership, which entitles them to four free cinema tickets, £2 off when they buy a full priced cinema ticket and discounts in The Garden by Leaf at FACT, the FACT Bar and other local venues.

The deadline for both competitions is 4 September, so good luck! There will be a FREE Slackers Club screening of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl on 28 August.
