Jo will support Director Mike Stubbs, and lead the organisation in further developing and delivering FACT’s business plan, and growing strong creative networks in the city and beyond.
Jo joins from the Welsh Government where as Head of Creative Industries he has been instrumental in driving the global economic growth of the £1.6bn per annum Welsh creative sector, leading a specialist team and a strategic sector development programme that has helped to create or safeguard around 3000 jobs and over £100m inward investment. With achievements including securing Pinewood Studio Group's first UK studio outside London, establishing a £30m commercial TV and film investment fund, and launching GloWorks - a 40,000ft2 creative hub in the heart of Cardiff Bay, Jo will bring a wealth of expertise in the creative economy.
This appointment also marks Jo’s return to Liverpool’s creative sector where he studied for an MBA at the Institute of Popular Music in 2001 and went on to work with local music manager Pete Fulwell (Eric's, The Christians, Black, Pete Wylie) at LIPA and the Merseyside Music Development Agency, developing and delivering support programmes for local musicians and creative entrepreneurs.
Of his new role, Jo Wright said: "After four successful years helping to grow the creative industries of Wales, I am delighted to be returning to work in Liverpool and being part of this wonderful city's creative business community once again. I am particularly excited to be joining the fantastic team at FACT and looking forward to bringing my experience of developing creative enterprise and the wider creative economy to the organisation.
FACT already has a reputation as one of the UK's leading media arts centres - I am keen to build on that, making the FACT brand synonymous not just with artistic excellence but with creative innovation and enterprise, and as a driver for economic and commercial growth in the local arts and creative industry sectors."
Commenting on the new appointment, Mike Stubbs said: "I am delighted that Jo is joining us and attracting someone of his calibre in the creative industries sector is not only a tremendous coup, but very timely as we ramp up our ambitions for our innovation agenda. We always say that art IS innovation, and that artists and designers are the rocketfuel of that; with Jo's business knowledge we are well equipped to create an incubator of original art and ideas, whilst developing opportunities with the creative digital industries.”
