VIP project underway for Battle of the Atlantic commemmorations
As FACT gears up for a major project as part of the Battle of the Atlantic commemorations this May, we found out more about the plans and the progress so far.
3 April 2013
FACT's Veterans In Practice (VIP) group will be working with Liverpool City Council and its Battle of the Atlantic 70th anniversary commemorations this May to produce photography, film and sound projects with veterans as part of the council's Culture Liverpool programme. The end results will go on display at venues including FACT and the Maritime Museum.
VIP member Paul told us more about the project..
On 26 March, VIP were asked by Liverpool City Council to host a day for the veterans who have served in the Battle Of The Atlantic during the Second World War at the Town Hall to commemorate the 70 years since the Battle Of The Atlantic. There was a good attendance all round with 14 Atlantic veterans, Commodore Baum, Royal Navy northern regional commander and the Lord Mayor herself attended.
It was an interesting day and we heard some great stories from the veterans who were interviewed by members of VIP for a documentary that is all about the Atlantic Star Veterans. We will be interviewing the veterans again in the near future and hopefully they might show us some memorabilia from their journeys.
There are more up and coming events involving the Battle Of The Atlantic veterans, so keep an eye out for more information on our blog: liverpoolveterans.co.uk.
