One of the most long awaited screenings in FACT's Random Acts strand hits TV screens tonight, as James Franco's Dream airs on Channel 4 at 11.20pm.

The actor is known for his versatility and has turned his hand to everything in recent years from writing and directing to modelling and performance art.

The film is one of 25 co-curated and co-commisioned by FACT with independent producer Jacqui Davies in association with Arts Council England. Other artists who have made films for Random Acts include Marina Abramovic, Apitchapong Weerasethakul, and Turner Prize Winners Mark Wallinger and Mark Leckey.

The FACT co-commissioned strand of films have even recently been screened at the Rome Film Festival, with James Franco in attendance for the premiere of Dream. It was shortlisted for in the best short film award category as part of the festival's Cinema XXI programme.

About his three-minute film, Franco says: "Dream is inspired by a variety of sources: images based on personal experiences, personal dreams, images based on other people, death, life, and the photography of Gregory Crewdson. It is comprised of a single roving shot to give a sense of the fluid nature of dreams. We focused on art direction intensely so that the piece is as much a sculpture as it is a film. "

After being seen on Channel 4 tonight, Dream will be available to watch on the Random Acts and Artplayer websites.
