The film opened this year's London Film Festival to rave reviews, labelling the movie ' a return to form', 'the year's most inventive, endearing animated feature' and 'very sweet, very funny, really quite touching and exquisitely handmade'. Frankenweenie tells the story of Victor Frankenstein who constructs a makeshift laboratory in his attic to reanimate his beloved pet Sparky who is run over by a car. His classmates learn what he's been up to and soon this gruesome hobby starts to catch on.
Frankenweenie is produced entirely using stop motion animation similar to Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride. Filming began in 2010 at London's Three Mills Studios and involved over 200 different handmade puppets with each human having around 45 moveable joints.
Tim Burton has brought to life some of cinema's most distinctive and memorable characters from Edward Scissorhands to Ed Wood. This is his first movie since 2003's Big Fish not to feature Johnny Depp instead he is reunited with Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara.
Martin Short, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan and Atticus Schaffer complete the all star voice cast.
